Towcester Civic Centre

One of the larger buildings within the project, the new civic building will sit in the heart of the community. Arranged as two blocks around a central atrium the buildings have been intelligently positioned to maximise daylight within the central atrium and reduce the need for powered lighting wherever possible. The new council chamber has been designed to host a wide range of activities from council meetings to public lectures, cultural performances and weddings. Integrating sustainable and low carbon design solutions from the feasibility and concept phase, our team’s innovative design solutions for the project included mixed-mode ventilation with overnight pre-cooling solutions, variable ventilation volumes controlled by CO2 levels, solar thermal hot water, air source heat pumps, rainwater harvesting and underfloor heating to the triple height atrium space.
